Treaty Research

This guide describes resources and methods for locating and updating treaties of the United States and other countries.

Bilateral Treaties (U.S. Is Not a Party)

Table of Contents

Overview

Locating bilateral treaties to which the U.S. is not a party can be challenging, especially when neither party to the agreement is an English-speaking jurisdiction.  Relatively few treaty indexes include citations to bilateral treaties.  Several full-text, multi-jurisdictional treaty sources include bilateral treaty texts, but their coverage is highly selective, not comprehensive.  The most comprehensive full-text sources for bilateral treaties are national treaty collections and official gazettes, but these resources are limited to a single jurisdiction.
