International Trade Law Research Guide

The following U.S. government agency websites are good sources for information about international trade law and U.S. trade policy:

• International Trade Administration (ITA) 
  The ITA, a bureau within the Department of Commerce, is responsible for promoting U.S. exports and enforcing U.S. trade laws.  Its website is a good source for accessing trade-related statistics, data, and analytics.
   
• Office of Trade Agreements Negotiations and Compliance (TANC) 
  Another bureau within the Department of Commerce, TANC works to eliminate foreign trade barriers by helping to negotiate new trade agreements and enforce existing agreements.  The Trade Agreements page of its website provides access to the full texts of all free trade agreements and bilateral investment treaties to which the U.S. is a party.  It also provides access to explanatory guides to many of these agreements.
   
• International Trade Commission (ITC)
  The ITC is a quasi-judicial agency that investigates the impact of unfair trade practices on U.S. industries as well as claims of intellectual property infringement that arise out of international trade.  It also publishes and maintains the Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
   
• U.S. Trade Representative
  The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative is responsible for developing trade policy and negotiating trade agreements.  Its website provides information about free trade agreements to which the U.S. is a party, including those currently under negotiation (T-TIP), as well as trade and investment framework agreements.
