Judge Samuel A. Alito: Nominee to Replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor (Confirmed)

On October 31, 2005, President George W. Bush nominated Judge Samuel Alito to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. Confirmation hearings for Judge Alito began on January 8, 2006. The Senate confirmed Judge Alito by a vote of 58-42 and Judge Samuel Alito was sworn in on January 31, 2006.
