Human Rights Law Treatises

This book provides an introduction to the historical background of international human rights and then moves on to discussing the major systems (United Nations, European, Inter-American, and African). There are also chapters on the United States and non-governmental organizations. International Human Rights in a Nutshell is also available online via West Academic Study Aids.

More of a concise reference source than a treatise, this book offers quick background information on terms in the human rights context. For example, the "right to vote" entry discusses which articles of various human rights treaties address this.

The goal of this book is to explain basic human rights law and includes sections on national protection, treaty body jurisprudence, government duties, reporting systems and other topics. The intended audience is national leaders, officials, or legal advisors, responsible for implementation, allowing brief explanations of issues and concepts.

This is not a treatise, but a very useful compilation of the major human rights treaties. It can be a handy full text reference for use with a treatise.
