Policies for Law Library books, Consortium Loan Service and Interlibrary Loan Service.

How to Request Law Library Books

Option A: Through the Catalog

1. Search for a book title using the "Law Library Catalog" option in the Law Library Catalog

2. In the search results, click on the desired title to open the full catalog record.

3. While in the full catalog record, sign into your library account if you have not already logged in. Use your GULC NetID and Password. You may be required to verify via DUO Authentication.

4. Then click on Place hold for pickup that appears after you log in.

5. Click on Send Request to submit the request form.

The request is sent to the Circulation Desk to process. The desk staff will search for the book and check out the retrieved book to your library account. The search process may take two days. The book will be handed to Library Research Services for delivery to your campus office or mail folder. If the item is not readily available on the shelf, the Circulation Desk will notify library Research Services and/or Interlibrary Loan Services.

Option B: Through Law Library Research Services

Submit the citation through the department's Request a Book or Article form, or email lawlibraryresearch@georgetown.edu for assistance.

How to Request Consortium Loan Service (CLS) Books

Option A: Through the Catalog

1. Search for a book title in the "Georgetown Univ.+Local Academic Libiraries" option within the Law Library Catalog.

2. In the search results, click on the desired title to open the full catalog record.

3. While in the full catalog record, sign into your library account if you have not already logged in. Use your GULC NetID and Password. You may be required to verify via DUO Authentication.

4. Then click on Request from a Local Academic Library that appears after you log in.

5. Click on Send Request to submit the request form.

The request is sent to the circulation service at the consortium library that has an available copy. If the request can be filled, the loan will be routed to the Law Library. Turnaround may take a week. Once received, the book will be checked out to your library account by the Law Library's Circulation Desk and then delivered to your campus office or mail folder by Library Research Services.

If the request cannot be filled, you will receive a notification from the library catalog system. Please forward that notice to Research Services (lawlibraryresearch@georgetown.edu) to pursue Interlibrary Loan options.

Option B: Through Law Library Research Services

Enter the citation on the department's Request a Book or Article form. Click to check and accept the Consortium Loan Consent prior to submitting the form. Research Services will submit a request to consortium libraries through a proxy account. Once received, Research Services will check the book out to your library account then deliver it to your campus office or mail folder.

You may email the book citation to lawlibraryresearch@georgetown.edu. Along with the citation, please include in the email a statement that you give Research Services permission to obtain the book through consortium service otherwise the service may not be selected. If CLS is not an option for the requested book, the title will then be processed through Interlibrary Loan.

How to Request Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Books

Option A: Through the Library Catalog

1. Search for a book title either under "Law Library Catalog" or "Georgetown Univ.+Local Academic Libiraries" search option within the Law Library Catalog.

2.  In the search results, click on the desired title to open the full catalog record.

3. While in the full catalog record, sign into your library account if you have not already logged in. Use your GULC NetID and Password. You may be required to verify via DUO Authentication.

4. If a copy of a book is not readily available in or owned by the Law Library, an Interlibrary Loan option will appear. Click on that option.

Request book chapter or article through Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

5. You will be brought to the ILLiad logon page. Log into your ILLiad account. If you have not registered for an ILLiad account, you may do so at this time. Once logged in, the book citation is auto-populated into the ILLiad Physical Item Request form. Complete any required fields on the form and Submit.

The request is received and processed by Interlibrary Loan services. Once the loan arrives, the book will be checked out through your ILLiad account and handed to Library Research Services for delivery to your campus office or mail folder. If there are any difficulties with the request, you will be contacted by ILL.

Option B: Through WorldCat

Option C: Through ILLiad

1. Submit the citation through ILLiad, the records management system for Interlibrary Loan services If you have not previously registered an account, you may do so on the First Time Users form.

2. You may copy and paste, or type in, the information required on the form then submit it.

The request is processed by Interlibrary Loan services. Once the loan arrives, the book will be checked out through your ILLiad account and handed to Research Services for delivery to your campus office or mail folder. If there are any difficulties with the request, you will be contacted by ILL.

Option D: Through Law Library Research Services or Interlibrary Loan

Enter the book citation into Research Services' Request a Book or Article form. Research Services will submit on your behalf the request to ILL

You may also email the book citation to either Research Services (lawlibraryresearch@georgetown.edu) or Interlibrary Loan (law-ill@georgetown.edu).

The request is processed by Interlibrary Loan services. Once the loan arrives, the book will be checked out through your ILLiad proxy account and handed to Research Services for delivery to your campus office or mail folder. If there are any difficulties with the request, you will be contacted by ILL
