How LRS Chooses Which Service to Use for Faculty Book Requests
Consortium Loan Service (CLS) Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
How Service is Selected
  1. When the book is not readily available at the Law Library, and
  2. When the faculty member consents to borrow via CLS, and
  3. When a circulating copy is available at a consortium library.
  1. When the book is not readily available at the Law Library, and
  2. When the faculty does not consent to borrow through CLS, or
  3. When a circulating copy is not readily available within the consortium.
Service Advantages

Loan period & renewal policies may be more generous than ILL.

Local consortium van can deliver most CLS books in 3-4 working days.

No daily fines for overdue or recalled books.

Lending pool not limited to consortium libraries.

Renewal requests can be made to and processed by the ILL Office.

Disadvantages

Daily overdue and recall fines and replacement charges apply to all faculty. Privileges are affected quickly by fines. Payment may need to be made at the lending library campus.

Renewals must be submitted by you through your My Library Account. (See How to Renew Your Law Library & CLS Books)

Consortium law libraries do not lend through CLS.

Loan period and renewal policies may not be as generous as CLS. Your faculty status is not recognized by other libraries.

Loan coming from library outside of DC regions may take 5-7 business days to arrive.
