Research Strategies for Seminar Papers

A select list of books on legal writing available at the Law Library.

The Writing Center at Georgetown Law is staffed by trained upper-level students known as Senior Writing Fellows. Through interactive, individualized conferences, the Writing Center provides members of the Georgetown Law community with feedback on the writing process and written work. Students may make appointments to discuss questions they have on a writing assignment in any class at Georgetown, including journal notes or writing projects in conjunction with an extracurricular activity. The Writing Center also offers Guides and Handouts on various legal writing topics.

The Language Center at Georgetown Law offers specialized assistance to students for whom English is a second language. Each semester, they offer a series of writing workshops.

Citation tools (also known as citation managers) are specially designed databases to store and use both citation metadata (author, publication, title, date, etc.) and the resources they describe. If you are working on a seminar paper, a journal, or other large writing project, using a citation tool can help to streamline your research and writing process. Some citation tools also help you start to automatically build footnotes. This guide provides information on Zotero (our recommendation), RefWorks, and Mendeley.
