You may submit ILL requests under two methods depending if...

... you will use the ILL exclusively. ... the faculty will use the ILL exclusively.

First Time ILLiad User:

  • Create your own account with a username & password.
  • Register with your name, Go Card, email, telephone.
  • Register as 'Student' status.

Registered User:

  • Submit requests under your account.
  • For forgotten username, contact the ILL Office, 202-662-9154 (M-F 9-5)
  • For forgotten password, on ILLiad page, click on Forgot Password? link & check your email, or contact the ILL Office.

Create a Faculty ILL Proxy Account:

  • All faculty RA ILLiad usernames follow this format: smithj-ra for a faculty named John Smith (i.e. faculty's last name followed by first initial followed by "-ra," no spaces.
  • All faculty RA ILLiad passwords are: ill
  • Register the faculty's name, telephone, email and choose "Faculty" status.

Registered ILL Proxy Account:

  • If an account already exists, you should be able to log into ILLiad using the above username and password formatting.
  • Once logged in, check Tools>Change User Information and then update the University ID/Go Card number to yours.

Contact the ILL Office for assistance, 202-662-9154 (M-F 9-5).

In the ILLiad request form, within the Use of Material field, type "RA for [facutly name]. In the ILLiad request form, within the Use of Material field, type "Ordered by RA [your name]," in case we need to contact you with questions. Otherwise, we will only contact the faculty with questions.
You will be the point of contact and shall receive emailed questions, arrival notices, reminders and overdue messages. Faculty will be the point of contact for arrival notices, reminders and overdue messages.
ILL books that arrive will be held under your name at the Williams Circulation Desk. ILL books that arrive will be delivered to the faculty's office or mail folder by Research Services.
Copies of articles, pages, or chapters are deposited electronically into your ILLiad account. Copies of articles, pages or chapters are delivered to the faculty (as PDF or in print) by Research Services.
You are responsible for returning borrowed ILLs. They can be returned to Williams Circulation Desk or into the Library Book Drop Boxes. Faculty is responsible for returning borrowed ILLs.
Borrowed ILL materials should be held in your possession. Do not lend to your faculty books that are checked out to you. ILL books cannot be transferred from one ILLiad account to another. Borrowed ILL materials should be kept by the faculty and not shared with an RA. Do not accept a copy of an ILL book checked out to the faculty. ILL books cannot be transferred from one ILLiad account to another.
If you and the professor both need to use the same title, submit an ILL request through your own ILLiad account as well as the faculty's ILL proxy account. Follow this method even if you and the faculty need the book at different times. Requesting a Book

  • You may search for a book title through WorldCat and then submit an ILL request through it if Georgetown Law does not own the material, or if our copy is not readily available. See the tutorial: Borrowing from Non-Georgetown Institutions.
  • Alternatively, you may manually fill the ILLiad Book request form.
ILLiad Form Field What to Enter
Authors/Editors (required field) If there is neither, then enter "N/A"
Title (required field) If manually entering the form, enter title as it appears cited, do not abbreviate yourself, do not guess the full title
Date of Publication &/or Edition Enter especially if you need a certain version. If nothing is entered, the more widely held version will be borrowed.
Use of Material (required field)
  • Enter faculty's name if submitting request under your ILLiad account.
  • Enter  your name if submitting under faculty's proxy account.
  • Enter other helpful information such as "Need vol. 2"

Requesting a Copy of a Journal or Newspaper Article

Fill the ILLiad Photocopy request form.

ILLiad Form Field What to Enter
Periodical Title (required field) If not submitting through OneSearch, enter or copy title as cited, do not abbreviate yourself, do not guess the full title.
Volume
  • In Bluebook citation style, this is the number typically preceding the title of a consecutively paginated journal.
  • In other citation style, the volume may be found following the journal title and preceding a parenthetical issue number and pagination, e.g. 6 (2): 124-132.
Year (required field) For newspaper article, enter the full date, i.e. month, date and year.
Inclusive Pages (required field) If you only have the starting page, then enter as "124 - end." Otherwise, just that one page may be supplied.
Article Title (required field) If not submitting through OneSearch, enter or copy article title as it appears in your found citation, do not abbreviate.
Use of Material (required field)
  • Enter faculty's name if submitting request under your ILLiad account.
  • Enter your name if ordering under faculty's proxy account.

 

Requesting Copy of Pages Out of a Book, Reporter, etc.

Using the ILLiad Photocopy request form:

ILLiad Form Field What to Enter
Title (required field) Enter title as cited, do not abbreviate yourself, do not guess the full title.
Year (required field) Enter publication year or edition. If nothing is entered, then the most widely held version may be used.
Inclusive Pages (required field)
  • Enter "See below".
  • Enter necessary information into Article/Chapter Title field.
  • Do not insert lengthy pagination information into this field.
Article/Chapter Title (required field)

Enter chapter or section title if available. Include lengthy pagination info in this field.

  • Example for book chapter: "Title pg, copyright pg, pp.32-45" or "Title pg, copyright pg, Chap. 6"
  • Example for encyclopedia/dictionary: "Title pg, copyright pg, entry for Search & Seizure"
  • Example for legal reporter: "Title pg, copyright pg, § 32.15"
  • Example for statute: "§§ 40-23-191 through 40-23-199 (1975), eff. Oct. 1, 2015"
  • Example for statute-at-large: "2014 N.C. Sess. Laws 767"

Using the ILLiad Book Form:

  • Search for the book, reporter, encyclopedia title through WorldCat.
  • You may submit an ILL request through WorldCat if Georgetown Law does not own a copy or its copy is not readily available. See tutorial: Borrowing from Non-Georgetown Institutions.
  • For copies out of books, etc., it does not matter if item is held by a consortium library. You may use ILL.
